7 years ago today, on September 19th, 2000, Madonna released the studio album with the straightforward title: Music. After the hugely successful Ray Of Light, she took the electronica style further and recorded the bulk of the album with underground French electronica artist Mirwais Ahmadzaï. The record - which was centered around the cowgirl image - features fan favourites Music, Impressive Instant, Don't Tell Me & Paradise (Not For Me). Madonna also collaborated with Ray Of Light mastermind William Orbit and with Guy Sigsworth. After the title track, the second single was Don't Tell Me, originally written by Madonna's brother-in-law Joe Henry, and the third and last single was What It Feels Like For A Girl, for which the video was banned for violence. Non-US copies of the CD feature the Don McLean cover from The Next Best Thing OST, American Pie, while Australian-Asian editions contain the bonus track Cyber-Raga. The album was a huge success all over the world, reaching #1 in many countries, eventually selling up to 13 million copies worldwide. In the USA, it sold 420,000 in its first week, which was the fourth highest female debut at the time. The project was nominated for several Grammy Awards but unfortunately it lost in all categories except 'Best Recording Package', handed to Kevin Reagan, which he also won for his work on Ray Of Light.
